Robotic Surgery Q & A

What is robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery is the most advanced minimally invasive surgical tool available. Dr. Berg of Arcadia Ob/Gyn performs robotic surgery using the da Vinci® surgical system. This advanced tool allows Dr. Berg to perform even the most complex procedures through small incisions and with the use of tiny surgical instruments.

The surgical system is outfitted with interactive surgical arms, a camera, and a 3D image processing system. During surgery, Dr. Berg sits at the computer console and uses a special hand control that allows him to manipulate the interactive surgical arms, as well as the camera.

The interactive arms mimic his movements with precision and accuracy to perform your surgical procedure.

What are the benefits of robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery offers benefits to you and Dr. Berg. Some of the most common include:

  • Less scarring
  • Less blood loss
  • Reduced pain
  • Faster recovery
  • Reduced risk of infection
  • Less surgeon hand and eye fatigue
  • Shorter hospital stay

Because of the clarity the robotic camera is able to produce, robotic surgery also allows for better visualization of the internal organs.

What procedures are performed using robotic surgery?

Dr. Berg uses robotic surgery to perform many gynecological procedures. Some of the most common include:

  • Hysterectomy
  • Certain types of gynecological cancer (uterine, cervical)
  • Pelvic floor prolapse
  • Fibroid removal
  • Excision of endometriosis

Robotic surgery also makes it easier for removal and dissection of lymph nodes when performing surgery for cancer.

Am I a good candidate for robotic surgery?

Dr. Berg determines if you’re a good candidate for robotic surgery during your surgical consultation at Arcadia Ob/Gyn. He is an experienced surgeon and uses many techniques to help you get the results you want. While robotic surgery is an advanced tool that offers many benefits, it may not make the safest surgical route for you.

Dr. Berg determines the best way to perform your surgery based on the type of surgery you need, your overall health, and your surgical history.

Robotic surgery is the most advanced minimally invasive surgical option and is used to perform many common gynecological procedures. To see if the tool is right for you, contact Arcadia Ob/Gyn by phone or online today.
